TORONTO — TIFF is pleased to announce a special advance screening of Sarah Polley’s highly anticipated film 'Women Talking' — adapted from Miriam Toews’ acclaimed novel of the same name ― on Wednesday, December 7 for TIFF members, ahead of its December 23rd limited run at TIFF Bell Lightbox. The screening will be followed by an onstage conversation with Toews and Polley. Tickets for the Member-exclusive advance screening will be available for purchase on November 23 at 10am ET and tickets for limited theatrical release will go on sale December 7 at 10 am. Women Talking will have a limited release in New York City, Los Angeles, and Chicago before its general release in 2023.
'Women Talking' follows a tight-knit, cloistered religious colony in which women struggle to recover from a wave of abuse. Polley’s first film in a decade features riveting, emotionally nuanced performances from a stunning ensemble that includes Oscar nominees Rooney Mara and Jessie Buckley, as well as Oscar winner Frances McDormand. Women Talking is a drama of harrowing revelations, fraught alliances, and the search for grace. The film also stars Claire Foy, Judith Ivey, and Ben Whishaw.
Hot on the heels of its international premiere at the 47th Toronto International Film Festival, Women Talking, from MGM’s Orion Pictures and distributed by Universal Canada, was also a runner-up for TIFF’s People’s Choice Award.
In addition, TIFF Cinematheque is presenting Sarah Polley and Other Stories, from December 3–17, a director spotlight showcasing all three of Polley’s earlier features, in addition to three films of her own selection.
