Reacher is back with a vengeance as Alan Ritchson continues to shine in the role he was destined to play with a gritty, contained crime thriller that will have viewers hooked on another season of Amazon Prime Video’s hit series.
After taking down a local corrupt businessman and police force, as well as stopping a dangerous arms dealer trying to arm international terrorists, Jack Reacher returns for yet another mission. While returning back to the basics of the more focused conspiracy of the series’ first season, Reacher’s third season continues to showcase the outstanding lead performance of Alan Ritchson who perfectly embodies every aspect of Jack Reacher, once again delivering a riveting season of television that will keep viewers turning in each week to see how Reacher will defeat the bad guys this time around.
Continuing to adapt Lee Child’s novels out of order, the latest season of Reacher adapts the seventh novel in the series, Persuader, and sees Reacher going undercover as part of an unofficial DEA operation to rescue their informant who was taken captive and help bust a vast criminal enterprise. Unlike the series’ second season which saw a much larger cast of characters, multiple locations and a vast conspiracy, the latest season goes back to the more confined storytelling of the first season that originally made the show a hit. With a smaller cast of characters, fewer locations and a less involved plotline, the intense crime thriller continuously builds over the six episodes with great character development, Reacher’s unmatched powers of intuition and reasoning, and a smart story full of twists and turns that keeps Reacher and his DEA partners on their toes, weaving a narrative that never lets up for a second. Like the second season, this case is also personal to Reacher which raises the stakes for viewers, only making Reacher more admirable and heroic in their eyes, at the same time as finding a way to bring Neagley back into the fold as you cannot have a season of Reacher without one of the series’ most beloved supporting characters. The action sequences themselves are brutal as Ritchson unleashes the brute force of Reacher on any enemy that crosses his path, creating exciting sequences in every episode that ensures that there is never a second of the first six episodes of the season that do not entertain. And with still two more episodes to go, with an explosive conclusion being primed, there is no doubt that Reacher’s third season continues to make it one of the most exciting series currently airing.
Everyone has been singing the praises of Ritchson since the first season of Reacher, and there is not much more that can be said about his performance two seasons later. Ritchson possesses a strength and silent charisma that brings Reacher to life in a formidable way that is both threatening and sets a standard that viewers want to aspire to. Maria Stern, returning as Neagley, while only having a few scenes in the first six episodes, is just as great as she has been the past two seasons, confirming that you cannot do a new season of Reacher without Neagley. Sonya Cassidy is an excellent lead opposite Reached, matching his no nonsense as DEA Agent Susan Duffy, who is dead set on getting her informant out of Beck’s clutches, no matter what line she has to cross. Just like Ritchson, Cassidy brings that undeniable sense of justice and right to Duffy that makes her another strong ally that Reacher has met on his travels.

Anthony Michael Hall finds the right balance between a menacing criminal boss and a caring father as Zachary Beck, the head of the organization that Reacher has infiltrated, creating an unpredictable character that you are never sure where his true allegiance lies, especially as his character’s motivations are revealed over the course of the season. As Richard Beck, Johnny Berchtold is sweet with an innocence that makes him someone that Reacher has to protect in this otherwise dangerous criminal world, but there is a resilience that Berchtold infuses the character with that gives him a fight for his survival when needed. Then there is Olivier Richters, and well it’s not easy to make Ritchson small and mild mannered, but he towers over him with a dangerous, uncontrollable energy that gives Reacher his first true physical adversary to date in the series. And while he does not have much screen time in the first six episodes, Brian Tee is shaping up to be a great overarching villain for the season.
Packing a mean punch just like Reacher, the latest season of the hit Amazon Prime Video series is a knockout and delivers more of what fans love about the titular character and stories that have been told over the course of the series. Resting comfortably on the shoulders of Alan Ritchson who continues to shine as Jack Reacher, combined with great new characters and a supporting cast featuring Sonya Cassidy, Anthony Michael Hall, Johnny Berchtold, Olivier Richters and Brian Tee, the third season of Reacher is off to an impressive start that captures all the mystery, excitement and relentless fight sequences and continues the excellent standard set by its previous seasons.
